Staff vs Student Football Match

Staff vs Student Football Match

Final Score: Staff  5- 1 Students

On Thursday 19 June 2014 the Staff v Student football match took place on the Barnhill astro turf. Despite the warm conditions the stage was set for another epic clash of the titans. With a few inspirational words from team Captain's Pawandeep Heera (students) and Mr McComb (staff) both sets of players were let loose.

The opening 10 minutes were filled with exciting, expansive attacking football. As the match progressed it became clear the experience the staff had was taking its toll as the students struggled to get on the ball due to the staff dominating possession and hitting the back of the net twice in quick succession.

Nevertheless, the student Captain Pawandeep Heera was awarded a soft penalty with some play acting and he got his just reward when he stepped up to hit it and place it straight into the arms of Mr Barzyk who dominated his goal area all game. However, towards the end of the half Mr Barzyk was beaten by a well taken free kick hit by Kooshin Bakar.

The second half of the match started like the first until the midway point when the staff again began to dominate possession and shock the student team and the large number of spectators by making the student net bulge a further three times and this was enough to secure a well-deserved victory for the staff. An enjoyable afternoon was brought to a close as the referee blew the final whistle.

All staff members who took part must be commended. In goals Mr Barzyk dominated the box all game claiming several crosses and it must also be noted how he saved several spectacular shots. In defense Mr Coughlan, Mr McComb, Ms Blackburn and Mr Watts snuffled out any attacks the students brought. The midfield of Mr Cooper, Mr Boateng, Mr Noakes and Mr Abdulle taught the students a lesson in how to pass and move whilst up front Mr Charles was a thorn in the student defence as he tortured them with his physical power and ability.

Special Mention must go to Year 11 student Gemma Day who refereed the game brilliantly and to Ms Blackburn who was awarded player of the match. Also, thank you to all supporters who cheered both teams on.
