Staff 7 - 1 Students
The annual Staff v Student football match took place on the Barnhill astro pitch. Despite the warm conditions the stage was set for another epic clash of the titans. With a few inspirational words from team Captain's Billy Moon (students) and Mr McComb (staff) both sets of players were let loose.
The opening 10 minutes were filled with exciting, expansive attacking football. As the match progressed it became clear the experience the staff had was taking its toll as the students struggled to get on the ball due to the staff dominating possession and hitting the back of the net twice in quick succession. Later then they added a third which was a brilliant team goal. However, towards the end of the half Mr Simmonds was beaten by a sweet strike from Jamie Dixon which was a worthy winner of goal of the game.
The second half of the match started like the first until the midway point when the staff again began to dominate possession and shock the student team and the large number of spectators by making the student net bulge a further four times and this was enough to secure a well-deserved victory for the staff. An enjoyable afternoon was brought to a close as the referee Miss Blackburn blew the final whistle.
All staff members who took part must be commended. In goals Abdi from Bellrock and Mr Simmonds dominated the box all game claiming several crosses and it must also be noted how they saved several spectacular shots. In defense Mr McComb, Mr Charles, Mr Noakes and Mr Simmonds snuffled out any attacks the students brought. The midfield of Mr Cooper, Mr Rogers, Mr Boateng, Mr Watts, Mr Steele-Dadzie and Mr Stannard give the students a lesson in how to pass and move whilst up front Mr Abdulle was a thorn in the student defence as he demonstrated to them how to be clinical in front of goal.
Special Mention must go to Miss Blackburn who refereed the game brilliantly as without her the game would not have been such a success! Also, a special mention goes to Mr Rodgers who was awarded player of the match as he took the game by the scruff of the neck from start to finish. Finally a massive thank-you to all the supporters who cheered both teams on and made the match a special atmosphere for all concerned!
